Toyota Now Produces 5.7-liter V8 Engine in Alabama

Toyota officials along with the state and local officials in Alabama have recently celebrated the production of the very first 5.7-liter V8 at the company’s engine plant in Huntsville, Alabama.

Toyota Motor Corporation has invested about $490 million at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama (TMMAL) to produce the 5.7-liter V8 engine, along with other Toyota engines like the 4.0-liter V6 and the 4.7-V8 engine. Toyota said TMMAL has the capacity to produce about 150,000 units of the new 5.7-liter V8 engine every year. Toyota’s new 5.7-liter V8 engine will be installed as one of the standard powertrain parts of the all-new Tundra built in Toyota assembly plants located in Texas and Indiana.

During the celebration, Shoji Ikawa, Senior Managing Director of Toyota Motor Corporation commented, "This is the most powerful pickup truck engine Toyota has ever manufactured not only in North America, but in the world. The engine is the heart of any vehicle. Engine performance and quality are major considerations for today's truck customer. We know we can count on these team members to continue to deliver the high quality engines our customers expect from Toyota."

Toyota also donated $50,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Huntsville and $50,000 to the National Children's Advocacy Center as a part of the celebration. Kunihiko Ogura, President of Motor Manufacturing Alabama said: "We are proud to be part of this wonderful community," Ogura said. "I am proud of the culture of this Toyota Alabama team. The power of teamwork is alive and well and will ensure a bright future for Toyota in Alabama."
